The graphic designer uses imagination, talent and skill to create visual concepts, layouts, graphics, photos and other design materials for a variety of print and electronic media.
The graphic designer is expected to proactively plan and execute compelling visual concepts that meet marketing objectives and strengthen the University brand and image.
The graphic designer also takes provided conceptual work and moves it through the finishing processes to arrive at a finished piece with proper formatting for digital distribution or print production.
The graphic designer works collaboratively with all units within the Division of Marketing and Communications as well as numerous campus colleagues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Using imagination, talent and skill to conceptualize and design layout proofs that creatively meet communication, marketing and branding goals.
Revise proofs in collaboration with creative services director, marketing communications team and colleagues in order to solicit approvals.
Prepare files for numerous print and electronic formats, creating final print production files and/or digital assets and attending press checks when applicable.
Meets regularly with the creative services director, fellow designers, marketing communications team members and colleagues in order to kickoff projects and brainstorm workable solutions to issues that arise.
Manages twice-weekly open studio time, taking high-quality headshots of faculty, staff and students for use in promotional materials for the University.
Provides project management and relations services on specific assigned jobs, including Mass programs for Campus Ministry, registration policy docAuments and commencement programs for the Office of the Registrar, and The Administrative Policies documents for Human Resources.
Manage, organize and archive photos on the DMC server and online photo management system.
Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field from an accredited institution 5 years of related work experience.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.
This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Fluency with design principles for print and digital media .
2-3 years of experience in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat on a Mac platform, or relevant best-of-breed design solutions.
2-3 years of experience in in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) on a Mac platform Familiarity with DSLR camera operation, photographic principles and basic lighting techniques.
Familiarity with Social Media Platforms.
Familiarity with Adobe Premiere and Adobe AfterEffects, or comparable best-of-breed design solutions.
Familiarity with web content management systems; experience in CMS preferred.
Working knowledge of higher education landscape, trends, and issues desired.
Accurately and effectively meets demanding deadlines for multiple projects.
Strong colleague-collaboration attitude.
