Description
As the Corporate Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities within the organization.
You will play a key role in managing the company's financial health and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of the company's financial operations, including corporate budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Oversee the maintenance of the trial balance for several corporate entities and preparation of financial statements and reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
General ledger responsibilities also include oversight of the property accounting group, which includes investor reporting for several investment entities with external investors.
Property accounting is performed with external property managers who maintain the books and records for individual properties.
Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency, including cost savings and efficiency opportunities.
Manage the company's accounting and finance team, providing guidance and support as needed.
Collaborate with asset management, development, acquisitions, marketing, and construction to align financial goals and objectives with overall company strategy.
Work with external accountants to complete annual and quarterly (where applicable) tax compliance filings and to complete external audited financial statements for several entities.
Oversight of annual property budgets in conjunction with external property managers, property accounting, and asset management.
Manage a staff of corporate and property accounting team members, including external third-party property management accounting and outsourced accounting staff.
Preparation and review of distributions and waterfall calculations in compliance with operating agreements.
Experience reviewing contractual documents such as loan agreements, operating agreements, or other material contractual agreements.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
CPA or CMA certification preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting role.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.
Proven experience in financial forecasting, budgeting, and analysis.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficient in financial management software and MS Office Suite with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively communicate and present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
High level of integrity and ethical standards.
Experience in multifamily accounting and experience with RealPage are desirable but not required.
Familiarity with other real estate-specific accounting software should be highlighted.
The company prefers to have this position based on-site at Alpha's corporate office in Pittsburgh or, potentially, Nashville.
Alpha supports a hybrid working environment with an expectation that managers are in the office at least three days per week.
Consideration will be given to non-local candidates, depending on experience.
Only candidates with multifamily real estate accounting and prior Controller experience will be considered for remote (including Nashville) working options.
